About the position

The Process Control Engineer at Graphic Packaging International is responsible for overseeing and optimizing control systems that manage manufacturing processes. This role involves collaborating with various departments to implement and enhance control strategies for both new and existing equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The engineer will lead efforts in process control innovation, problem-solving, and project management, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement process control strategies including regulatory control, control sequence, logic, and advanced control for both continuous and batch processes.
  • Develop, modify, and enhance HMI.
  • Monitor control system performance, which includes loop analysis and tuning.
  • Implement new control system technology.
  • Support process problem solving by identifying sources of process upsets and other anomalies.
  • Develop and maintain alarm systems.
  • Support capital projects, including developing project justification and managing related projects.
  • Identify areas that need process control optimization.
  • Evaluate the efficiency of manufacturing technologies, instruments, equipment, and tools.
  • Drive process control innovation in collaboration with senior managers.
  • Recommend suitable software solutions and automate manufacturing processes.
  • Recruit process specialists and train teams on the implementation of new processes.
  • Keep process control operations within budget without compromising quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Document processes and prepare progress reports.
  • Keep abreast of developments and innovation in process control engineering.
  • Support mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of process control experience required.
  • Good working knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), particularly Honeywell Experion or TDC.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (Allen Bradley ControlLogix) is a plus.
  • BS Degree in Engineering (Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Pulp/Paper Science).
  • Specialization in process control systems preferred.
  • Experience in process control engineering in a related industry.
  • Proficiency in project management and Statistical Process Control (SPC) software.
  • Extensive industry-specific process control knowledge.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with instrumentation and electrical systems associated with process control systems.
  • Expert level of knowledge in process control strategy.
  • Highly competent in data analysis and use of process data historians such as OSI PI or Capstone ParcView.
  • Understanding of P&ID drawings, loop sheets, and motor elementaries.
