About the position

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Process Controls Engineer/Specialist to join the Research and Technology team in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. This role is responsible for managing DCS architecture, control procedures, and documentation of system standards. The engineer will collaborate with pilot plant and lab personnel to enhance existing control systems and develop new ones, sharing technical knowledge in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes team safety goals
  • Troubleshoots control related issues that impact operations
  • Reviews and manages the documentation of system standards, control procedures, and DCS architecture, and complex control schemes
  • Supports capital and/or expense projects with developing the controls/DCS scope of work
  • Develops new control applications using emerging technologies
  • Manages process control projects and provides control designs
  • Provides instructions for training on control subjects
  • Participates in hazard analysis studies, corrective action implementation, and on-going alarm management activities
  • Drives continuous improvement efforts
  • Participates in Management of Change (MOC) process
  • Designs and implements DCS software and hardware changes on control systems
  • Acts as a technical consultant to contract engineering firms and plant staff for equipment and control system changes
  • Works with the IT/ICS group on cybersecurity initiatives
  • Sets up data collection to the DeltaV historian and sitewide PI historian
  • Coordinates Alarm Management with Operations
  • Coordinates with Operations and EHS on the design, maintenance, and testing of the IPS system

Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering with at least 3 years of experience in manufacturing or research processes
  • OR an Associate Degree in Instrumentation or Process Technology with at least 10 years of manufacturing or research process experience
  • Experience in regulatory control scheme design and implementation
  • Proficient in reading and understanding design documents such as P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, and schematics
  • Ability to work well with others to accomplish objectives
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience working within a PSM facility
  • Familiar with virtual systems
  • Familiar with Operations Technology (OT)
