About the position

The Process Controls Engineer at Calgon Carbon is responsible for process control engineering and software development related to carbon manufacturing. This role focuses on enhancing process controls and human interfaces in manufacturing facilities, developing hardware and software controls for capital improvements, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards across production lines.

Responsibilities

  • Specify, develop, implement, and service control systems including logic and HMI systems at manufacturing facilities for new projects.
  • Work with multiple types of PLC and DCS systems, including Rockwell/Allen Bradley and Honeywell TDC and Experion.
  • Provide expertise to develop controls and instrumentation packages for capital projects and lead external resources through completion.
  • Develop and maintain controls software for production lines.
  • Consult with plant operations, maintenance, and controls staff to verify that plant modifications conform to company standards.
  • Develop new programs and features to improve plant operations and process monitoring.
  • Coordinate with Process Engineers and Project Managers in generating project drawing packages, including review of P&IDs and instrumentation specifications.
  • Ensure design hardware conforms to project requirements and that developed software matches hardware design.
  • Develop, propagate, and modify standards for controls logic and human interface programs for manufacturing facilities.
  • Work with plant staff and external resources to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Develop, specify, and maintain company assets for process data collection, retrieval, and archiving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or chemical engineering or equivalent from a four-year college or university is required.
  • 7-10 years of programming experience with Allen Bradley and Honeywell DCS products/systems is required.
  • 7-10 years of experience with Microsoft Office is required.
  • Experience setting up and maintaining PI system hardware and software is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
