About the position

The Process Controls Engineer at Calgon Carbon Corporation plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of process control engineering and software development associated with carbon manufacturing. This position is integral to enhancing process controls and human interfaces within manufacturing facilities. The engineer will be responsible for developing both hardware and software controls for capital improvements and new process plants, as well as establishing controls engineering standards for process controls and interfaces. The role requires collaboration with Facilities engineering for capital projects that necessitate controls hardware and software, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and consistency across production lines and facilities. In this position, the Process Controls Engineer will specify, develop, implement, and service control systems, including logic and HMI systems at manufacturing facilities for new projects. The candidate will work with various types of PLC and DCS systems, such as Rockwell/Allen Bradley and Honeywell TDC and Experion. The engineer will provide expertise in developing controls and instrumentation packages for capital projects, interfacing with and leading external resources, including contract engineering firms and electrical contractors, to ensure the delivery of well-designed and functional control systems. Additionally, the engineer will develop and maintain controls software for production lines, consulting with plant operations, maintenance, and controls staff to verify that plant modifications conform to company standards for user interface design and control logic best practices. The role also involves coordinating with Process Engineers and Project Managers to generate project drawing packages, ensuring that selected equipment meets process design goals and that developed software aligns with hardware design. The Process Controls Engineer will be responsible for developing, propagating, and modifying standards for controls logic and human interface programs, ensuring compliance with industry best practices. This includes maintaining company assets used for process data collection, retrieval, and archiving, particularly concerning PI process data recording systems. The engineer will work closely with Facilities Engineering, manufacturing plant staff, and outside resources to ensure that new control systems and modifications to existing systems are thoroughly documented and updated as necessary.
