About the position

The J.R. Simplot Company is seeking a skilled engineer to support production efforts by providing technical support to the plant operating and maintenance departments. This role is crucial in managing and enhancing the DCS/PLC/HMI facility systems, with a particular focus on Siemens PCS7. The successful candidate will be responsible for continuous process improvements by leveraging existing process control applications and implementing upgrades to automation systems throughout the facility. This position will also involve supporting the process control aspects of capital improvement and maintenance projects, which includes design, programming, startup support, and coordination of outside services related to process controls. In addition to project management of small projects, which may include supervising contractors and plant maintenance during equipment commissioning, the engineer will work collaboratively with other team members to develop strategies that ensure the facility remains current with appropriate control technologies. Sharing knowledge with engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel is essential to enhance their skills and improve overall facility support. The role also requires participation in the Process Safety Management (PSM) program, including involvement in Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) and Management of Change (MOC) processes. A working knowledge of various regulations and standards, including OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ISO, and IEC, is necessary to ensure compliance and safety in operations.

Responsibilities

• Continuous process improvements by leveraging existing process control applications and ongoing upgrades to automation systems.
• Support the process control portion of capital improvement and maintenance projects by providing design, programming, startup support, and coordination of outside services.
• Perform periodic DCS maintenance duties to ensure long-term system reliability.
• Project management of small projects, including supervision of contractors and plant maintenance during equipment commissioning.
• Collaborate with team members to develop strategies that keep the facility current with appropriate control technologies.
• Share knowledge with engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel to enhance their skills and support the facility better.
• Participate in the Process Safety Management (PSM) program, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) and Management of Change (MOC) processes.

Requirements

• B.S. in Engineering, preferably with a concentration in Electrical or Electrical Controls.
• 5+ years of relevant work experience in process control or automation.
• Proficiency with at least one brand of PLC or DCS system; special consideration for Siemens PCS7 experience.
• Basic understanding of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and their Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assignments.
• Experience in designing control systems and developing electrical and motor elementary drawings, loop sheets, and P&IDs.
• Knowledge of various process control networks.
