About the position

Nalco Water, an Ecolab company, is seeking a Process Controls Engineer to join our team at the flagship manufacturing facility located in Clearing, IL. This role is pivotal in driving automation and enhancing our digital and IoT capabilities within the plant. The successful candidate will take the lead in overseeing the plant's DCS/PLC networks, ensuring the architecture, PLC logic programming, and HMI operator interfaces are maintained to the highest standards. This position is not only about maintaining existing systems but also about innovating and implementing new control instrumentation and equipment to streamline operations and improve efficiency. As the primary leader in automation, you will provide engineering and technical support to manufacturing and maintenance operations, troubleshooting and repairing electrical equipment and automated systems. You will also be responsible for maintaining cybersecurity protocols for internal process control networks in collaboration with Corporate IT. Your role will involve leading automation projects aimed at continuous improvement, which includes the design, selection, and installation of new systems, as well as enhancing existing ones. You will create and maintain comprehensive documentation of controls equipment and systems, ensuring that all processes are well-documented and easily accessible. In addition to these responsibilities, you will facilitate the implementation of process visualization software and its integration with current control systems. You will also be tasked with upgrading DCS/PLC systems as necessary and interfacing with various PLC instrumentation, both new and legacy. Familiarity with multiple control systems' hardware and software, such as Delta-V, Rockwell, Siemens, and Wonderware, is essential. This role also includes building out IoT capabilities across the plant and supporting the development of Statistical Process Control (SPC) capabilities, all while driving best practices for automation throughout the plant network. Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain all plant DCS/PLC networks, including architecture, PLC logic programming, and HMI operator interface for production.
  • Provide engineering/technical support to manufacturing and maintenance operations in troubleshooting, rebuilding, and repairing electrical equipment and automated systems.
  • Streamline and maintain cybersecurity of internal process control networks with Corporate IT.
  • Identify and implement new control instrumentation and equipment.
  • Lead and facilitate automation projects for continuous improvement of manufacturing operations through design, selection, and installation of new equipment/systems as well as improvement of existing systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation of controls equipment and systems.
  • Facilitate implementation of process visualization software and integration with current control systems.
  • Implement DCS/PLC upgrades as needed.
  • Interface and troubleshoot various PLC instrumentation with new and legacy control systems.
  • Installation of various system monitoring capabilities.
  • Build out IoT capabilities across the plant.
  • Support efforts to develop SPC capabilities.
  • Aid in driving best practices for automation across the plant network.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 2 years of experience in a commercial manufacturing environment.
  • 1 year of DCS or industrial process control experience including PLC and HMI programming.
  • Experience with MS Office suite.

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator with experience working across multiple functions.

  • Familiarity and expertise with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is a plus.
