About the position

The Process Design Kit & Engineering Intern position at GlobalFoundries offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the semiconductor industry. Interns will work closely with the Process Design Kit team, contributing to the development and automation of design workflows while leveraging machine learning techniques. This role emphasizes mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities within a leading semiconductor foundry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Cadence Virtuoso technology files and SKILL coding.
  • Work on the development and QA of Analog Mixed Signal Design flow.
  • Create SKILL PCells, including writing callbacks and netlisting functions for simulators.
  • Develop layouts and schematics in the Cadence Design Environment.
  • Automate and run the full custom design flow, including Simulation, DRC, LVS, Parasitic Extraction, Back-annotation, and post-layout simulation.
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner, supporting Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least a sophomore at the time of application with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.
  • Experience using Linux/Unix environment.
  • Good programming skills, preferably in Python, but also Perl, Tcl, shell scripting, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior related internship or co-op experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in workplace or school projects.
  • Project management skills to innovate and execute solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Good understanding of semiconductor process layout rules and concepts.
  • Experience with database management is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams to define project specifications.
  • Basic knowledge of device-level layout and simulation.
  • Knowledge of process design kits (PDKs), Cadence Virtuoso, and/or Cadence SKILL programming language.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques.
