About the position

The Process Development Engineer-Coating will oversee the development of coating processes specifically for compression-molded wood seats. This role involves collaboration with powder manufacturers and coaters to create replicable processes within Bemis production. The engineer will conduct design of experiments and studies aimed at enhancing coating processes and achieving more durable surfaces for future applications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external resources on the development of powder coating for compression-molded wood seats.
  • Partner with powder developers to ensure the best surface finish at the most effective cost possible.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to create production lines to manage required capacity needs.
  • Manage design studies to optimize coating performance for wear/chemical resistance, appearance, and cost.
  • Establish standard processes and quality expectations for the manufacture of powder coated parts.
  • Research advancements in coating technology to keep Bemis at the forefront of the industry.
  • Work closely with Bemis production to address production line issues related to coating molded wood products.
  • Incorporate safety into the development of powder coating processes and related equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
  • 3+ years of powder coating experience.
  • Experience in coating wood is desirable.
  • Familiarity with running design of experiments (DOE) and other scientific methodologies.
  • Project management experience.
  • Ability to support production issues with coating as they arise.
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to effectively organize resources to complete multiple projects with competing deadlines with minimal direct supervision.
  • Knowledge and experience in Lean practices and Statistical Methods.
  • Solid computer skills.
  • Ability to read drawings and prints (both part and tool prints).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
