About the position

The Process Development Engineer 1 at Abbott is responsible for process development, equipment specification, acquisition, and implementation. This role involves identifying root causes using structured problem-solving techniques and applying engineering principles to analyze and solve complex problems. The engineer will conduct experiments, validate processes, and create technical documents to ensure compliance and efficiency in manufacturing. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and provides training and expertise in product processing.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for process development, equipment specification, acquisition, and implementation.
  • Identify root causes using structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Analyze and solve problems using engineering principles and innovative approaches.
  • Complete design of experiments, validation, and analysis of data for continuous improvement activities.
  • Present data to equipment teams and suggest new methods or materials for quality and efficiency improvement.
  • Analyze current equipment for process suitability and provide detailed improvement plans.
  • Create and revise manufacturing documents, specifications, SOPs, safety instructions, and validation protocols.
  • Work with engineers and technicians to develop solutions and improvements in materials, equipment, and processes.
  • Participate in teams to ensure continual improvement, safety, and compliance.
  • Provide training and process expertise for product processing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 0-2+ years of related work experience, or Master's degree with 0-2 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures in engineering.
  • General understanding of business unit/group function.
