Full-time - Entry Level
Hickory, NC
Nonmetallic Mineral Product Manufacturing

About the position

Corning is at the forefront of technological innovation, particularly in the Optical Communications segment, which has transitioned from merely manufacturing optical fiber and cable to providing comprehensive optical solutions across the communications industry. This role is pivotal in developing new processes and products utilizing extrusion or UV curing techniques. The successful candidate will leverage their engineering expertise to support new product and process development activities, establishing tooling, equipment, and process design requirements, and developing machine set points for optimal manufacturing conditions. While specific knowledge of fiber optic cable processes and polymeric materials is beneficial, it is not a strict requirement. The candidate will engage in project teams to create innovative solutions that address customer challenges while generating intellectual property that adds value to Corning. Responsibilities include conducting research, proposing experiments, and analyzing data to enhance product and process understanding. The role also involves designing and developing new equipment or modifying existing ones, planning and installing new equipment, and identifying new processing techniques to innovate cable designs. Balancing hands-on work with technical leadership, the candidate will guide development technicians and ensure effective communication of results through technical reports and presentations. Collaboration with research and manufacturing teams globally is essential, as is maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to develop state-of-the-art equipment and processes. Risk assessments related to equipment and processes will also be a critical aspect of the role, focusing on staff safety, environmental impact, and product reliability.
