About the position

Apple is seeking a highly skilled thin film engineer to design PVD equipment and processes for advanced technology development. This role involves developing and simulating production-intent manufacturing processes on pilot scale equipment to meet product performance and economic targets. The engineer will collaborate with a multi-functional team and a scale partner to develop production-scale equipment and ensure effective technology transfer and production line readiness.

Responsibilities

• Design PVD equipment and processes for advanced technology development.
• Develop and simulate production-intent manufacturing processes on pilot scale equipment.
• Collaborate with a multi-functional team and scale partner to develop production-scale equipment.
• Drive process integration and technology transfer to production lines.
• Manage vendor relationships and complex production requirements.

Requirements

• BS degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
• Experience in thin film deposition in semiconductor, thin film display, thin film solar, optical coatings, or related industries.
• Proficient in thin film characterization techniques.

Nice-to-haves

• PhD or MS in material science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related fields.
• Experience in deposition of metal and oxide thin films using various power configurations (DC, AC, RF).
• Familiarity with in-line and drum coating tool architectures.
• Experience collaborating with Mechanical Engineering/Design and Operations.
• Proficient with statistical analysis and problem-solving tools (SPC, DOE, Fishbone, FMEA, etc).
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
