The Process Engineer at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA) plays a crucial role in developing and optimizing production processes and equipment to meet the organization's safety, quality, output, and cost goals. This position is integral to the manufacturing powertrain division, where the engineer will collect production data and apply scientific and statistical methods to analyze, document, and diagram production processes. The Process Engineer is responsible for identifying production problems and proposing effective solutions. This includes recommending and implementing changes to equipment, work methods, and other aspects of production to enhance the utilization of resources. In this role, the Process Engineer will study the impact of line speed changes on staffing, processes, and quality control. They will analyze process efficiency and recommend, design, and implement continuous improvement initiatives, including kaizen for headcount reduction. The engineer will evaluate powertrain components for ease of installation and finished powertrain quality, as well as study new and existing components for cost reduction and continuous improvement ideas. Coordination of part investigation trials to assess the impact of part changes on the existing assembly line is also a key responsibility. The Process Engineer will support model development activities to evaluate process challenges and installation concerns, document test results using various tools, and conduct bulk material cost and waste analysis. They will analyze scrap materials cost and waste, manage jig replacement and test bench harness ordering for normal production wear, and analyze downtime information for high-frequency processes, recommending kaizens for operational performance improvement. Additionally, the engineer will review process-related safety concerns for potential countermeasures and assist in staffing coordination, while also coordinating best practices within the organization. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
