About the position

The Process Engineer Co-Op position at Howmet Aerospace in LaPorte, Indiana, is designed for engineering students seeking hands-on experience in the aerospace industry. This role focuses on learning and supporting the investment casting process for superalloy components, with mentorship from experienced Process Engineers. The co-op will engage in various tasks aimed at improving manufacturing efficiency and profitability while developing essential engineering skills.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the investment casting process of superalloy components.
  • Develop new and refine existing investment casting processes to reduce scrap, rework, and manufacturing costs.
  • Support manufacturing in the processing of castings through all operations.
  • Work with customers to design components for castability.
  • Maintain customer relationships through joint resolution of issues.
  • Maintain and improve casting scrap rates.
  • Maintain and improve casting rework rates.
  • Improve casting profitability through cost reductions.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing work instructions.
  • Develop casting processes for new products.
  • Assist sales department in quotation of new products.
  • Achieve cost targets for development and production castings.
  • Establish and achieve milestones for casting development.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma
  • Currently enrolled in a Cooperative Education Engineering program with an accredited institution.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • Casting or Metal fabrication experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Works well in a team environment.
