The Product Specific Engineer position at ADM in Decatur, IL, is a salaried exempt role focused on monitoring, troubleshooting, and improving a designated product line. The engineer will play a crucial role in enhancing profitability by concentrating on key areas such as production efficiency, product quality, safety, environmental stewardship, and cost management. This position requires a proactive approach to developing and monitoring production benchmarks, creating clear plans for process improvement, and effectively communicating production schedules to the team. The engineer will collaborate closely with operations and reliability teams to ensure that production targets are consistently met. In terms of quality assurance, the engineer will work alongside the production group to benchmark and drive improvements in product quality and food safety. Active participation in the HACCP team is expected, along with a commitment to enhancing the HACCP plan. The engineer must also consider Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) when implementing process or design changes, ensuring that food safety and quality practices are upheld throughout the facility. Safety is a top priority for this role, and the engineer will be expected to lead safety initiatives and participate in safety teams. They will hold themselves and their colleagues to high safety standards, supporting corporate safety initiatives and fostering a culture of safety within the organization. Environmental stewardship is another critical aspect of the role, requiring the engineer to work with production and environmental teams to ensure compliance with relevant environmental regulations and permits. This includes monitoring emission control devices and maintaining records of regulated chemicals to promote environmentally conscious operations. Cost management is a key responsibility, with the engineer tasked with ensuring that processes operate efficiently. This involves monitoring energy inputs, product yields, and process costs to identify areas for improvement. The engineer will collaborate with Reliability and Procurement teams to understand major cost drivers and explore opportunities for cost reduction through enhanced reliability and sourcing strategies. Overall, the Product Specific Engineer will be instrumental in driving continuous improvement within the production process, ensuring that all activities align with safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and troubleshoot the designated product line to improve profitability.
• Develop and monitor production benchmarks and clear plans for process improvement.
• Communicate production schedules effectively to the production team.
• Work with operations and reliability teams to ensure production schedules are met.
• Drive improvements in product quality and food safety in collaboration with the production group.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial experience.
• Strong verbal and technical writing skills.
• Strong data analysis skills.
• Ability to coordinate multi-talented teams for process improvement.
• Capability to develop and communicate a vision for continuous improvement.
