About the position

A Process Engineer, General Assembly, Semi will implement, develop, and optimize production methodologies in the manufacturing operations of Tesla. This Engineer will be responsible for OEE and drive process optimization that may include tool/fixture selection, line layouts, ergonomics study, material presentation, and other relevant factors. They will interface with Design, Test, and Quality Engineering to solve problems, improve manufacturability, and implement continual improvement.

Responsibilities

• Implement, develop, and optimize production methodologies in manufacturing operations.
• Drive process optimization including tool/fixture selection, line layouts, ergonomics study, and material presentation.
• Interface with Design, Test, and Quality Engineering to solve problems and improve manufacturability.
• Travel internationally and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FATs) to validate and ramp new production tools.
• Develop expertise in manufacturing processes and understand process capabilities through data analysis.
• Analyze and optimize production processes to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) while ensuring safety and quality.
• Champion continuous improvement projects (CIP) to maximize yield, capacity, and capability.
• Work closely with functional and electrical testing to determine top failure modes and drive yield improvements.
• Diagnose issues found during the manufacturing process and drive corrective action back to source.
• Create and maintain Manufacturing Instructions, routings, and associated processes.
• Develop and train technicians and assist in the training of operators as needed.
• Support 24/7 production operations.

Requirements

• Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science, or equivalent experience.
• 1-3 years of experience working in automotive manufacturing.
• Demonstrated track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness improvement activities.
• Good understanding of Bill of Materials, Manufacturing Execution System, Specification Management, Change Point Management.
• Experience working with high voltage electronics, testing and assembly processes.
• Data analysis experience using tools like MySQL, Python, R, JMP, Minitab.
• Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude for learning systems quickly.
• Ability to utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W), or Eight Disciplines (8D).
• Exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities and competing priorities.
• Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers.
