About the position

The Process Engineer I position at ATI in Millersburg, Oregon, is a critical role within the Chemical Operations Division, focusing on providing technical and manufacturing process support. The primary responsibility of the Process Engineer is to identify and eliminate sources of variation in manufacturing processes while establishing standards, best practices, and performance metrics on the shop floor. This role requires a master problem solver who can lead processes to ensure conformance and produce quality products that meet customer requirements and ATI's goals and objectives. To succeed in this role, the Process Engineer must quickly learn about ATI, the Chemical Operations Division, and various chemical processes. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including a unionized workforce, engineering, quality, and safety, is essential. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, a continuous improvement mindset, and exceptional interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and the ability to make impactful decisions quickly are also crucial for success in this position. The Process Engineer will consistently demonstrate safety and environmental protection as core values, conduct daily reviews of logbooks and alarm histories, and maintain close relationships with operators to stay engaged with daily activities. This position will also involve supporting daily management huddles and leading management area rack-ups to facilitate real-time problem-solving of safety and operational issues. Monitoring and reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will be a key responsibility to ensure optimal process performance, alongside championing the review of trends and Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts. The Process Engineer will analyze existing processes, identify improvement opportunities, and propose solutions to enhance operational performance, serving as the process owner for assigned processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and manufacturing process support to identify and eliminate sources of variation.
  • Establish standards, best practices, and performance metrics on the shop floor.
  • Conduct daily reviews of logbooks and alarm histories to stay engaged with daily activities.
  • Support daily management huddles and lead daily management area rack-ups for real-time problem-solving.
  • Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure optimal process performance.
  • Champion the regular review of trends and Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.
  • Implement and maintain production loss/waste tracking systems and paretos.
  • Analyze existing processes, identify improvement opportunities, and propose solutions to enhance operational performance.
  • Serve as the process owner for assigned processes and lead escalation for support as needed.
  • Resolve production, equipment, quality, and safety problems, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide insights into process needs for capital and major maintenance projects.
  • Monitor incoming quality of raw materials and collaborate with Procurement on improvement initiatives.
  • Provide planning rate inputs to Supply Chain Planners for S OP process consistency.
  • Establish and document standards and best practices for Chemical Operations processes.
  • Support development and/or revision of work instructions, Quality System documents, and material specs.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives assigned to the area.
  • Collaborate with a network of Process Engineers for consistency.
  • Support data acquisition for various assessments.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Demonstrated excellent work ethic and initiative to resolve problems despite ambiguity or incomplete information.
  • Ability to apply creativity and independent critical thinking to problem investigation.
  • Uncompromising focus on safety.
  • Knowledge of principles of Process Engineering and manufacturing methods, process, and safety standards.
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication with people of varying technical backgrounds.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Ability to work constructively in small, cross-functional teams spanning safety, operations, technical, and quality groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple highly technical projects efficiently.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to production operators, front-line leaders, management, and other teams.
