The position involves providing direct engineering support to the manufacturing production lines, ensuring that the manufacturing process complies with its specifications and that the product meets qualifications. Utilizing Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and analytical problem-solving tools, the role focuses on identifying and implementing sustaining engineering projects aimed at eliminating manufacturing issues, reducing costs, decreasing scrap, improving quality, and minimizing cycle time. The individual will be responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership for daily manufacturing operations, ensuring established metrics such as Production, Quality, Scrap, and Cycle Time are met. Additionally, the role includes identifying and developing action plans to improve process reliability and machine uptime, providing engineering support to product inquiry investigations, and conducting assignments encompassing complete projects or portions of major projects. The engineer will determine methods and techniques to be used or adapt standard methods to meet variations, coordinate work with outside vendors, and establish manufacturing capability to support intra-company product transfers. The position also involves supporting supplier evaluations for services/products as needed and ensuring compliance with safety policies and procedures, including Environmental Management System responsibilities. Other responsibilities may be assigned, and not all responsibilities listed may be assigned. The engineer will also provide and implement robust corrective actions to quality, safety, and ergonomic risks detected in the manufacturing area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct engineering support to manufacturing production lines.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with specifications and product qualifications.
  • Utilize Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to identify and implement sustaining engineering projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership for daily manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure established metrics such as Production, Quality, Scrap, and Cycle Time are met.
  • Identify and develop action plans to improve process reliability and machine uptime.
  • Provide engineering support to product inquiry investigations.
  • Conduct assignments encompassing complete projects or portions of major projects.
  • Determine methods and techniques to be used or adapt standard methods to meet variations.
  • Coordinate work with outside vendors.
  • Establish manufacturing capability to support intra-company product transfers.
  • Provide technical expertise to support special projects, pilot operations, product and process improvements, and risk management actions.
  • Support supplier evaluations for services/products as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, including Environmental Management System responsibilities.
  • Implement robust corrective actions to quality, safety, and ergonomic risks detected in the manufacturing area.

Requirements

  • B.S. Engineering degree or M.S. Engineering degree.
  • Three to five years experience in a medical device environment.
  • Medical device experience including GMP knowledge.
  • Knowledge of product and process design and development, materials, standardization, and applied statistics.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet analysis, data management, project management, presentation graphics, engineering analysis, and statistical software such as MiniTab.
  • Knowledge of information systems including but not limited to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Quality Systems, and Documentation Control Systems such as Windchill.
  • Advance technical training in machining and CNC programming preferred.
