About the position

The Process Engineer II will play a crucial role in assisting with Process Innovation at CertainTeed Gypsum by collaborating with support groups and utilizing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles. This position focuses on product formulation, process development, equipment design, and project engineering, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to technical projects and optimize process equipment. The role involves analyzing process variations, developing solutions, and implementing corrective actions to enhance plant profitability while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Process Innovation through collaboration with support groups.
  • Utilize World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles to focus on product formulation and process development.
  • Design and develop new process systems and revise existing processes.
  • Coordinate the implementation of projects that contribute to plant profitability.
  • Execute projects safely and successfully, documenting progress and results.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers for equipment and materials.
  • Value Engineer options to maximize benefit/cost ratio and make design recommendations.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and reliability standards are met in process and equipment solutions.
  • Support project teams during the delivery phase and commissioning of equipment.
  • Participate in trials to evaluate equipment, process, and raw material opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering or similar discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and ability to work independently.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of focused improvement (FI), Kaizen, or WCM.
  • Understanding of mass & energy balance, flow diagrams, and P&ID.
  • Experience in implementing process improvements to reduce waste and downtime.
  • Familiarity with the gypsum manufacturing process.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project management related to process optimization and equipment upgrades.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate projects related to new technology implementation.
