About the position

Tosoh Quartz, Inc. (TQI) is seeking a Process Engineer III to join our team in Portland, OR. As the leading manufacturer of quartz glassware for the semiconductor industry, we pride ourselves on our commitment to quality and innovation since our inception in 1957. In this role, you will be at the forefront of our Quartz CNC Machining business, focusing on new product development and rapid prototyping. Your primary responsibility will be to evaluate products, parts, and processes to enhance efficiency and reliability while collaborating with both internal and external customers to identify technical solutions for our manufacturing processes. In this position, you will lead process design projects, developing and implementing systems aimed at increasing efficiency and optimizing production processes. You will serve as the engineering representative to customers, providing insights on the manufacturability of proposed new designs. Your efforts will be crucial in improving process capability and production volume, as well as researching, designing, and acquiring new manufacturing equipment. You will apply your mechanical theory and testing knowledge to layout, build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify equipment as necessary. Additionally, you will maintain oversight of project costs, quality, scope, and schedule to ensure timely project delivery within budget constraints. You will create and implement metrics to prioritize your projects and present data to leadership and key stakeholders. Mentoring and supporting other engineers in the department will also be a key aspect of your role, fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process design projects
  • Develop, enhance and implement systems to increase efficiency and optimize production processes
  • Act as engineering representative to customers regarding manufacturability of proposed new designs
  • Improve process capability and production volume
  • Research, design and build or acquire new equipment for manufacturing
  • Apply mechanical theory, testing procedures, and related knowledge to layout, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify equipment
  • Maintain awareness and control of project cost, quality, scope and schedule to ensure on-time delivery of the project, within budget
  • Create and implement metrics to prioritize your projects
  • Present data to leadership and key stakeholders
  • Mentor and support other engineers in the department

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience in engineering
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
  • Ability to write routine reports and present to key stakeholders
  • Propose projects with stakeholder input and present them to senior leadership for approval
  • Experience with Lean principles and continuous improvement projects is a plus
