About the position

The Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the discipline at a project level and managing the project discipline budget on simple to complex projects of all sizes. The Lead Engineer has a thorough understanding of the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases. The Lead Engineer is responsible for directing and managing the execution of design and engineering support staff (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectations and project goals. The Senior Engineer has a thorough understanding of the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases, sizes and levels of complexity. The Senior Engineer possesses the ability to coordinate with internal and external parties, manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities and direct the work of others.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs work and manages a project budget from a discipline design perspective on large complex projects.
  • Works with Project Manager on proposal development, man-hour planning and project scheduling for the discipline scope of work on intermediate level projects.
  • Identifies and resolves intermediate non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys.
  • Leads interactions with clients, internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Conducts quality checking of documents for complex projects and drives overall project quality.
  • Provides mentorship to junior discipline engineering and design staff.
  • Develops and delivers intermediate level internal discipline design and engineering training presentations.
  • Develops construction drawing packages and writes construction specifications on advanced and complex projects with little oversight.
  • Provides lead and advanced support of construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development and construction progress reports.
  • Leads advanced project system design programming and master planning with support from Senior Engineer.
  • Leads a team of discipline staff in the execution of advanced projects, discipline design and engineering.
  • Oversees the production of deliverables or lead activities which require more experience, deeper understanding or involve more complexity.

Requirements

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in chemical / biological / mechanical engineering.
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate specialization is desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience for Lead position.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience for Senior position.
  • A mixture of design firm, operating company or construction related experience (within the market sector) are desirable.
  • Extensive experience with applicable Industry or Regulatory Guidance and local building codes.

  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Effective leader with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive internal and external technical network including clients, vendors, peers and construction trade partners.
  • Experience successfully leading large or complex projects from a technical perspective.
  • Proficient with advanced coordination with internal cross discipline partners, construction trade partners, vendors and manufacturers required.
  • Diversity of experience across a variety of facilities, equipment and systems used in the life sciences or food and beverage industry.
