About the position

The Process Engineer will serve as the technical lead for process safety at the North American Arkema-ArrMaz facilities, focusing on the development and implementation of a comprehensive process safety program. This role involves executing process and production improvements while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The engineer will actively participate in manufacturing initiatives, facilitate hazard analyses, and drive a culture of safety within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Support plant compliance with safety and environmental regulatory requirements including OSHA, PSM, RMP, and other company policies.
  • Develop an effective Process Safety Management (PSM) culture focusing on 14 elements of process safety.
  • Participate in manufacturing process initiatives, providing expertise in process engineering and safety solutions.
  • Support the development and implementation of a PSM program at the North American facilities.
  • Evaluate equipment and processes using risk assessment tools to prioritize future PHA's and PSM efforts.
  • Ensure accurate creation, revision, and management of Process Safety Information.
  • Develop and manage a system for maintaining safety critical systems lists and testing frequencies.
  • Work with project leads and corporate SMEs to complete functional safety calculations as needed.
  • Facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHA's).
  • Identify, implement, and manage technical solutions for PHA and process safety action items.
  • Develop, design, and implement projects to improve plant processes, safety, and reliability.
  • Support and improve the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and mechanical integrity teams to ensure compliance with PSM requirements.
  • Ensure pre-start up safety reviews (PSSR's) are completed and findings addressed in collaboration with operations.
  • Ensure standard operating procedures are compliant with PSM in collaboration with operations.
  • Lead and educate team members on the importance of Process Safety.
  • Train operations personnel and staff on technical issues related to process safety.
  • Promptly report near misses and incidents in the EHS management system.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management system to track work orders.
  • Drive a zero-injury and zero process safety event work culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited University, preferably in Chemical Engineering.
  • 5-8 years of experience in a PSM program in a chemical or petrochemical environment.
  • 3-5 years of experience in project management.
  • Experience facilitating PHA's is required.
  • Understanding of the LOPA methodology is preferred.
  • Experience with functional safety calculations (SIL calculation) and dispersion modeling is preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing facility chemistry, formulation development, and reactions.
  • Experience working with chemical production personnel.
  • Experience in industrial chemical manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience using PHAWorks is preferred.
