About the position

The Process Engineer position at Bostik in Piedmont, SC, is a critical role that focuses on providing process and project engineering support to enhance operational efficiency. The engineer will continuously identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities to improve safety, quality, cost, and capacity within the facility. This position requires collaboration with technical staff, business groups, corporate technology, and external consultants to ensure product quality and customer-focused support. The Process Engineer will also support day-to-day plant operations, including batch management and manual operations, ensuring safety in all aspects of operations. Additionally, this role serves as a backup for the Operations Manager, highlighting its importance in maintaining operational continuity. The job encompasses various activities, with a significant emphasis on safety and environmental considerations. The engineer will lead and participate in process safety programs, conduct incident investigations, and ensure compliance with safety policies on the plant floor. Proposing actions to mitigate safety and environmental risks is a key responsibility, along with maintaining safety-critical items such as PRV inventory and critical interlock checks. In terms of process development, the Process Engineer will lead small CAPEX projects from concept through execution, utilizing knowledge of the Stage-Gate Process. They will assist with larger CAPEX projects as needed and organize industrial trials to evaluate new products and materials while ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality. The majority of the role (70%) involves plant process support, where the engineer will act as the process owner for assigned equipment and maintain comprehensive knowledge of all site processes. Regular engagement with operators is essential for optimizing and troubleshooting processes, providing training, and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and batch sheets. The engineer will also support the DCS (DeltaV) system and Aspen IP.21 historian system, conduct MOC processes for documenting changes, and manage product quality issues through root cause analysis. Coordination of variable cost and energy improvement programs in alignment with corporate initiatives is also part of the role, along with maintaining process documentation as required by PSM/RMP and corporate policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide process and project engineering support to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with technical staff, business groups, corporate technology, and consultants to ensure product quality and customer-focused support.
  • Support plant day-to-day processes including batch management and manual operations to ensure safety in all aspects of operations.
  • Lead and participate in process safety programs such as C.A.R.E., incident investigation, MOC, and process hazard analysis.
  • Spend time on the plant floor ensuring compliance with safety policies.
  • Propose actions to reduce safety and environmental risks.
  • Ensure safety-critical items are up to date, including PRV inventory and critical interlock checks.
  • Lead small CAPEX projects from concept, feasibility, design, and execution.
  • Assist with large CAPEX projects as needed.
  • Organize industrial trials for new products and materials.
  • Act as the process owner for assigned equipment and maintain knowledge of all site processes.
  • Engage regularly with operators to optimize and troubleshoot processes.
  • Provide training for operators and update SOPs and batch sheets.
  • Maintain technical process knowledge for the facility and product line, including SAP recipe management.
  • Support DCS (DeltaV) system and Aspen IP.21 historian system, including batch reporting.
  • Conduct MOC processes to document and control process changes.
  • Provide process support during periods of abnormal site management.
  • Support and promote HES reporting and investigations at the site.
  • Manage product quality and address quality issues, including root cause analysis.
  • Coordinate variable cost and energy improvement programs in support of corporate initiatives.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for process documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in process engineering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety management and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with CAPEX project management and the Stage-Gate Process.
  • Familiarity with DCS systems, specifically DeltaV, and batch reporting systems.
  • Ability to engage with operators and provide effective training.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
