About the position

The Process Engineer - Mechanical at Ametek Inc. plays a crucial role in maintaining and developing manufacturing operations documentation, tooling, and methods to efficiently meet the quality and quantity requirements of a variety of mil-aero grade thermal management products. This position involves a wide range of responsibilities that require both technical expertise and hands-on experience in a machine shop environment. The engineer will provide technical assistance to various departments, including the machine shop, paint shop, engineering, and material control, to eliminate unnecessary operations and clarify process instructions. In this role, the Process Engineer will work closely with all levels of staff in an advisory and instructional capacity, focusing on the use and setup of various machining equipment, addressing tooling problems, and implementing process and cost improvements. The engineer will also be responsible for researching and advising production on replacement equipment or upgrades to enhance production capabilities with new technology. Analyzing and developing production processes, time standards, and equipment setups will be essential to maximize manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs. The ability to interpret and communicate highly technical drawings is vital, as the engineer will translate these into easy-to-follow manufacturing instructions to ensure necessary control for product lines. Collaboration with tool designers to develop new tooling, repair existing tooling, and investigate improvements will be a key part of the role, aimed at continuously enhancing production support area capabilities and output. The engineer will also design lean manufacturing layouts and workspaces to maximize production output and efficiency. Participation in advanced projects related to new product releases will require the engineer to provide processes, equipment, and tooling recommendations to support the manufacturing of prototypes and first-time builds. Additionally, the engineer will collect, analyze, and present data for the purchase of capital equipment and tooling improvements, providing continuous improvement recommendations to various audiences within the company. Technical support and recommendations will also be provided to both internal and external customer technical/quality teams regarding process improvements, non-conforming parts, defects, and repair/rework.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Hands-on experience using machine shop tooling: lathes, 5-axis machines, CNC machines
  • General knowledge of mechanical assembly
  • General knowledge of machine shop operations and practices
  • General knowledge of tool and fixture design
  • General knowledge of welding
  • General knowledge of casting
  • General knowledge of MIL-SPEC paint
  • Good organizational skills, communication skills, work ethic, ability to multi-task and work on a team
