About the position

The Process Engineer at Tesla, Inc. is responsible for implementing, developing, and optimizing production methodologies within the manufacturing operations. This role focuses on enhancing product flow through process optimization, ensuring safety, and maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) while driving towards world-class quality levels. The engineer will participate in product transitions from concept to mass manufacturing, coordinate continuous improvement projects, and utilize structured problem-solving techniques to diagnose and resolve manufacturing issues.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, develop, and optimize production methodologies in manufacturing operations.
  • Optimize product flow through process optimization including tool selection, line layouts, and ergonomic studies.
  • Develop and modify line layouts to reduce waste and improve ergonomics using Lean Manufacturing practices.
  • Participate in the transition of products from concept to pilot line production and into mass manufacturing.
  • Analyze and optimize production processes to ensure safety and maximize OEE.
  • Coordinate continuous improvement projects to maximize yield, capacity, and capability.
  • Diagnose manufacturing process issues and drive corrective actions to identify and eliminate root causes.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, and Five Why (5W).
  • Analyze data to identify trends in build quality and efficiency.
  • Develop data collection, visualization, and analysis tools for operational decisions.
  • Monitor and reduce process variation using Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Audit manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications are met.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of FMEAs and Control Plans.
  • Create and maintain Manufacturing Instructions and associated processes.
  • Develop and train sustaining technicians and assist in operator training as needed.
  • Support 24/7 production operations, including work outside normal hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2 years of work experience in a relevant field.
  • 1 year of experience in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement activities.
  • 1 year of experience in Bill of Materials (BOMs).
  • 2 years of experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and using 2D or 3D modeling software.
  • 1 year of experience in data collection and analysis, including database software and SPC.
  • 2 years of experience using problem-solving techniques including DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W), or Eight Disciplines (8D).
  • 1 year of experience using Statistical Process Control.
