About the position

The Process Engineer for Powerwall at Tesla will focus on implementing, developing, and optimizing production methodologies within the manufacturing operations. This role is crucial for enhancing product flow through process optimization, which includes tool selection, line layouts, and ergonomic studies. The engineer will collaborate with design, test, and quality engineering teams to solve problems, improve manufacturability, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the role involves sustaining products through cost reduction and yield improvements while ensuring compliance with product specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise in manufacturing processes and understand process capabilities through critical data analysis.
  • Analyze and optimize production processes to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) while ensuring safety and quality.
  • Champion continuous improvement projects to maximize yield, capacity, and capability.
  • Diagnose issues in the manufacturing process and drive corrective actions to identify and eliminate root causes.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W), and Eight Disciplines (8D).
  • Develop robust data collection, visualization, and analysis tools for operational and financial decision-making.
  • Perform supporting activities for engineering and manufacturing, including Lean manufacturing activities and safety procedures.
  • Monitor and reduce process variation using Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA).
  • Create and maintain Manufacturing Instructions, routings, and associated processes.
  • Support 24/7 production operations.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control and its application.
  • 4+ years in a high volume, highly automated manufacturing facility developing and improving processes.
  • Experience in Overall Equipment Effectiveness improvement activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude for learning systems quickly.
  • Experience with a variety of test, control, and data acquisition equipment and software.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
