About the position

The Process Engineer at Mueller Water Products is tasked with the critical responsibility of developing, defining, and enhancing both new and existing manufacturing processes. This role requires a deep understanding of assigned manufacturing areas to drive improvements that not only reduce manufacturing costs but also minimize downtime and enhance process stability and capability. A proactive, hands-on, and energetic approach is essential for success in this position. In this role, the Process Engineer will actively lead troubleshooting efforts and conduct root cause analysis of operational issues, particularly those related to key performance indicators (KPIs) of the business unit and plant. Continuous improvement of manufacturing processes is a core responsibility, which involves applying knowledge of product design, machine design, and green sand casting processes. The engineer will also engage with vendors and gather insights from plant operators to inform process enhancements. Collaboration with the operational team is crucial, as the Process Engineer will support day-to-day problem-solving and process improvements. This includes providing directional recommendations based on evaluations of production costs, reviewing scheduling practices, and estimating future requirements. The role also involves direct support for assigned processes and equipment, which includes coordinating with maintenance and repair services, establishing preventative maintenance plans, and identifying critical spare parts. Additionally, the Process Engineer will ensure that all necessary process documentation is implemented and kept up to date, including work instructions, standard work procedures, maintenance repair procedures, and preventative maintenance checklists. Compliance with all regulatory bodies and government requirements is a priority, and the engineer must maintain safety and quality as top priorities in all endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of operational issues related to business unit and plant KPIs.
  • Continuously improve manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, machine design, and green sand casting processes.
  • Support day-to-day operational problems and improvements within the team.
  • Provide recommendations by evaluating production costs, reviewing scheduling practices, and estimating future requirements.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and repair services for assigned processes and equipment, establishing preventative maintenance plans and identifying critical spare parts.
  • Implement and update necessary process documentation, including work instructions and maintenance procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and government requirements in the performance of duties.
  • Prioritize safety and quality in all work activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering-related field is required.
  • Working experience or internship experience as a process engineer in a foundry, specifically in a brass foundry utilizing green sand molding and cold box core making processes is highly desired.
  • Experience with Solidworks or an equivalent 3D modeling software is required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or an equivalent drafting software is preferred.
  • Six Sigma training is preferred.
  • Strong grasp of lean manufacturing concepts is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CNC machining processes and work holding is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of employees, customers, and outside professionals.
