About the position

The Process Engineer Technician at Wabash plays a crucial role in providing training, development, documentation, and continuous improvement activities within their assigned area of responsibility. This position is essential for ensuring that employees are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively and safely. The technician will evaluate the quality of training and its impact on employees, making necessary adjustments to enhance individual and organizational capacity to meet the company's needs. In this role, the technician will be responsible for creating, revising, and auditing site-specific content, ensuring that the skills matrix is updated to accurately reflect employee training. This includes monitoring that employees are not operating machinery until they have received proper training. Adherence to company policies and procedures is paramount, including maintaining good attendance and following scheduled production hours. The technician will collaborate with Engineering, BOM, and Production teams to develop new Standard Work Instructions (SWI) documents and audit existing ones for accuracy on a weekly basis. Safety is a top priority, and the technician will conduct monthly safety audits of work zones, identifying potential hazards and developing corrective measures. They will work closely with supervisors and managers to complete departmental projects on time and will be tasked with developing improvement opportunities within the department. The technician will also assist in the development and maintenance of a sustainable 5S plan, conducting audits to ensure compliance and coaching team members on its importance. Additionally, the technician will assist with time studies, standard work, experiments, and Gemba walks as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the quality and impact of training on employees and make necessary changes.
  • Create, revise, and audit site-specific content.
  • Ensure the skills matrix is updated and accurately reflects employee training.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including scheduled production hours and overtime.
  • Maintain good attendance at work.
  • Collaborate with Engineering/BOM/Production to develop new SWI documents.
  • Audit current SWI documents for accuracy and make necessary updates weekly.
  • Perform monthly safety audits of work zones and develop corrective/preventative measures.
  • Work directly with Supervisors/Managers to complete department projects on time.
  • Develop opportunities for improvements within the department and add them to the project plan.
  • Submit weekly Continuous Improvement (CI) Action logs related to assigned tasks.
  • Assist in the development of the area 5S plan and track progress to goals.
  • Perform 5S audits to ensure sustainability of the plan.
  • Coach team members on the meaning and reasoning behind 5S practices.
  • Assist with time studies, standard work, experiments, and Gemba walks as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience in a Wabash manufacturing environment for a minimum of 1-3 years.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an enthusiastic approach to motivating employees.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet and deal tactfully with others.
  • Ability to understand complex written and oral instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for assigned duties.
  • Physical ability to perform floor and yard production positions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter with initiative and strong work ethics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of plant systems, equipment, and operations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in different formats.
