About the position

The Process Engineer (Wet Mill) position in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is a full-time, exempt role responsible for providing engineering support to the production department. The primary focus of this role is to lead process improvements that enhance department health and safety, as well as overall performance across all operational facets. This includes direct contributions to project development from conception through startup. The engineer will assist in managing day-to-day operations, tracking and understanding department costs, yields, quality, and process performance. While the position typically manages zero direct reports, it involves collaboration with various indirect reports as part of specific projects and initiatives. The role may also require interaction with capital contractor management and the plant maintenance team to ensure project completion within the department. Essential job functions include oversight of specific processes, which may involve project management tasks such as purchasing materials and supplies, equipment installation, budget tracking, employee training, and project startup. The engineer will assist in daily operations, including shift coverage as needed, and will lead plant operations to maintain personnel and process safety. Recommendations for improvements to company facilities, equipment, and safety programs are also part of the role. The engineer will interact directly with shift supervision to achieve desired operational results and foster employee development. Additionally, the position involves project design, development, and management specific to departmental operations, as well as process and cost tracking, and training and mentoring colleagues.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred).
  • 2-3 years of plant operations experience in similar environments (wet milling/dry milling/corn/food/agricultural/chemical).
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage personnel and collaborate with corporate departments.
  • Ability to anticipate challenges and develop solutions.
