About the position

The Process Engineer at Unilever will play a crucial role in managing the process parameters of the manufacturing system, ensuring that deviations are minimized to maintain process stability in the Compound or Filling and Packing areas. This position serves as a key liaison with various departments including Research and Development (R&D), Quality Assurance, Equipment Suppliers, and Safety and Environment teams. The primary objective is to define the ideal working conditions for the manufacturing process, ensuring that products are produced according to expected specifications while maintaining a safe environment for both personnel and the surrounding community. In this role, the Process Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing operating procedures and organizing workplaces to enable the production team to achieve expected performance levels while adhering to quality standards. The engineer will own and execute the improvement agenda at the Dove Bar Soap factory located in Hammond, IN, which is in close proximity to Chicago. Projects will primarily focus on the Packaging Unit but will encompass a broad range of improvements related to safety, quality, infrastructure, cost savings, and equipment enhancements. The Process Engineer will also drive the site master plan for Dove soap processing, aligning it with business targets related to delivery, productivity, cost, safety, and quality. The role requires a proactive approach to defining and maintaining optimum process parameters to maximize equipment efficiency and production quality. The Process Engineer will analyze process failures, identify causes of material loss, and develop measures to prevent future occurrences. Additionally, the engineer will introduce advanced technological processes and equipment, participate in the development of process sheets, and lead improvement projects utilizing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) tools. Training production operators and maintaining a robust reporting system regarding production functionality are also key responsibilities of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the optimum process parameters to ensure maximum efficiency of equipment and production according to quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain instructions and standard operating procedures for production operators.
  • Analyze causes of process failures and develop measures to prevent and eliminate them in the production process.
  • Introduce proposals for advanced technological processes and optimal production modes for products.
  • Participate in developing process sheets and changeover matrixes to improve workplace organization.
  • Propose production technology improvements and participate in equipment upgrades and trials.
  • Lead improvement projects and apply WCM tools in practice.
  • Monitor production and auxiliary equipment standards and identify causes of malfunctions.
  • Participate in training production operators and inform supervisors of any equipment deviations.
  • Develop and maintain a reporting system regarding production process functionality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in process engineering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve process issues.
  • Knowledge of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles and practices.
  • Ability to develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
