About the position

Sealed Air Corporation is seeking a Process Engineer to join our team in Simpsonville, SC. This role is pivotal in analyzing and developing solutions for processes that support extrusion, printing, and converting operations. The Process Engineer will work under the direction of the Department Value Stream Lead and indirectly with the Director of Process Engineering. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including engineers, plant managers, and maintenance personnel, to enhance operational efficiency and product quality. The Process Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing new processes, modifying existing ones, and leading cost improvement initiatives. This includes identifying opportunities for cost reduction and serving as the primary technical lead for process and equipment improvement projects. The role also involves interacting with customers and other business units to address process issues and quality concerns, as well as staying updated on new developments in the plastics extrusion field. In this position, the engineer will utilize data-driven decision-making to troubleshoot manufacturing problems and implement new methods to improve profitability. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, along with 5-7 years of relevant experience in process engineering. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage projects across multiple manufacturing areas are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop improved methods for delivering finished products to customers.
  • Identify and drive cost improvement projects to reduce operational costs.
  • Serve as the primary technical lead for process and equipment improvement projects.
  • Oversee equipment modifications, upgrades, and new installations from a technical perspective.
  • Interact with customers and business unit leaders to assist with process issues and quality concerns.
  • Stay updated on new equipment and process developments in the plastics extrusion field.
  • Share knowledge and communicate regularly with process engineers in other locations.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing problems and identify solutions using data-driven decision-making.
  • Implement new or improved manufacturing methods to enhance profitability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in Process Engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with professional presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with varied manufacturing processes such as extrusion, printing, laminating, and converting.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and tools, their use and interpretation.
  • Ability to manage projects involving multiple manufacturing areas and plants.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and focus on critical project parameters.
  • Knowledge of statistics and DMAIC methodology preferred.
  • Experience with designed experiments, Lean Six Sigma, SPC, or equivalent preferred.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
