About the position

As a Process Engineer at A. O. Smith Corporation, you will perform advanced engineering tasks under limited supervision, contributing to the development of innovative technologies and energy-efficient solutions in the manufacturing of water heating equipment and boilers. This role involves mentoring the engineering design team throughout the entire project cycle, from initial concept through to completion. You will oversee significant engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget, while developing action plans and estimating resource requirements including management, labor, materials, and time needed for project completion. In addition to project oversight, you will prepare monthly reports detailing progress and costs for top management, utilizing CAE tools such as Solidworks, MATLAB, LabView, Minitab, EES, CFD, and FEA. You will also develop and apply engineering standards and procedures, providing expert advice on engineering issues. Analyzing and identifying causes of component failures will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will providing technical solutions to manufacturing issues or customer field issues. Your role will require strong team management skills to lead the design group during the conceptual phase of product development, conducting project meetings, and preparing reports to communicate project status effectively. You will be expected to finish assigned engineering projects in accordance with customer specifications, coordinating the activities of the engineering team, contractors, and vendors. Additionally, you will lead brainstorming activities for specific needs and perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the engineering team and the company’s objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Use team management skills to lead the design group during the conceptual phase of product development.
  • Conduct project meetings and prepare reports to communicate project status within and beyond the project team.
  • Finish assigned engineering projects in accordance with customer specifications and within schedule and budget limitations, coordinating activities of the engineering team, contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead brainstorming activities for specific needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience, with a preference for experience in lean manufacturing, conducting capability studies, and job instruction breakdown.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Experience leading Kaizen related or Continuous Improvement Activity.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve issues quickly through root cause analysis.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of SAP and MRP systems is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
