About the position

The Process Engineer at NorthStar Energy Services is responsible for developing process design parameters and technical deliverables for industrial process systems, particularly in gas treating, oil and gas, power plants, or liquid material handling. This role requires a strong background in chemical process engineering and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, focusing on creating and updating P&IDs, chemical process simulations, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create and update P&IDs.
  • Develop chemical process simulations using software such as HYSYS, ProMax, UniSim, and Pipe-Flo.
  • Size, select, and evaluate Pressure Safety Valves (PSVs) and create spec sheets for process equipment.
  • Communicate timely and accurately with clients, management, and co-workers.
  • Understand the specific scope of work, design criteria, and project standards.
  • Participate in weekly calls to verify scope and information.
  • Prepare and maintain calculations for submittals for applicable permits or client review.
  • Develop system designs including PFD, P&ID, layouts, and specifications.
  • Check work received from Designers/Drafters for correctness and quality.
  • Ensure all engineering tasks are on budget and on schedule.
  • Develop process parameters including mass flow, heat transfer, and material balance capacities and rates.
  • Perform advanced engineering work as a technical specialist for complex assignments.
  • Size and select relief devices according to API standards and perform flare analysis.
  • Interface with mechanical, structural, and electrical engineers.
  • Create line lists, equipment lists, and initial instrument lists.
  • Develop logic diagrams and cause and effect charts for the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in Chemical Process Engineering in the midstream and petrochemical industry (7-8 years preferred).
  • Familiarity with process design and control.
  • Knowledge of relevant industrial standards, including API 520, API 521 Pt. I & Pt. II, API 2000, ASME Sec. VIII, API 610, etc.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems and implement solutions.
  • Experience developing industry-specific calculations for systems such as chemical balance, pipe flow rates, and overpressure protection.
  • Experience developing sizing information for process equipment and providing information in the form of equipment datasheets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in project leadership and/or supportive roles.
  • Professional License (P.E.) in the State of Louisiana and/or Texas preferred.
