About the position

The Process Engineer position at U.S. Steel's Minnesota Ore Operations offers an opportunity to leverage analytical, collaboration, and communication skills to enhance processing operations. The role focuses on driving improvements in operating efficiency, integrating emerging digital technologies, and promoting sustainability within the facilities. The position requires hands-on troubleshooting and collaboration with the operating team, as well as a commitment to safety and fact-based management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Daily process monitoring and hands-on troubleshooting in collaboration with the operating team.
  • Reviewing key performance indicators to provide technical guidance on operating and maintenance practices.
  • Implementing projects to enhance operational competitiveness while managing project milestones and resource requirements.
  • Utilizing data for business planning and forecasting.
  • Driving culture change to emphasize fact-based management practices using Lean Six Sigma and other methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, Minerals Processing Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, or a related scientific field.
  • Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary groups to drive results.
  • Excellent computer, communication, and writing skills, with an interest in hands-on assignments in a manufacturing environment.
  • Capability to analyze, interpret, and communicate process data.
  • Understanding of experimental design and analysis to test hypotheses.
  • Ability to apply statistical methods and analysis to data.
  • Commitment to safety as a core value in all aspects of work.
