About the position

The Process Engineer will be responsible for managing the process parameters of the manufacturing system, ensuring that there are no deviations and maintaining the stability of the process in Compound or Filling and Packing. This role serves as the primary contact with Research and Development, Quality Assurance, Equipment Suppliers, and the Safety and Environment departments to define the ideal working conditions for the process. The goal is to produce products that meet expected specifications while ensuring a stable process that is safe for both people and the environment. In this position, the Process Engineer will define all necessary parameters and develop operating procedures to organize the workplace effectively. This will enable the production team to meet expected performance levels while maintaining quality standards. The Process Engineer will also own and execute the improvement agenda at the Dove Bar Soap factory located in Hammond, IN, near Chicago. The projects will primarily focus on the Packaging Unit but will encompass a wide range of improvements related to safety, quality, infrastructure, savings, and equipment enhancements. This role will drive the site master plan for Dove soap processing, aligning with business targets in Delivery, Productivity, Cost, Safety, and Quality. The Process Engineer will report directly to the WCM Manager at the Dove Bar Soap Site.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain optimum process parameters to ensure maximum efficiency of equipment and production according to quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain instructions and standard operating procedures for production operators.
  • Analyze causes of process failures, loss of packaging materials, raw materials, and finished products, as well as incidents of poor quality.
  • Participate in the development of measures to prevent and eliminate process failures and quality complaints in collaboration with the Quality Assurance department.
  • Introduce proposals for advanced technological processes and optimal production modes for products.
  • Participate in developing process sheets and changeover matrices, and propose workplace organization improvements to reduce labor costs and enhance sanitation.
  • Propose production technology improvements and participate in projects to upgrade existing equipment and purchase new ones.
  • Conduct trial and industrial tests of new types of packaging materials, raw materials, and finished products.
  • Lead improvement projects and apply WCM tools in practice.
  • Participate in the HACCP program and develop measures to reduce risks and ensure consumer safety.
  • Monitor production and auxiliary equipment standards, identifying causes of malfunctions or defects.
  • Train production operators and inform supervisors of any detected deviations or malfunctions.
  • Develop and maintain a reporting system and working documentation regarding production process functionality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of engineering experience in FMCG or related industries.
  • Project management, maintenance, or continuous improvement experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong technical knowledge in soap making and packing technology.
  • Strong engineering leadership credentials with a proven ability to eliminate loss and waste on significant projects (normally above 100 kEUR).
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement methods and tools.
  • Experience in statistics and process control tools.
