About the position

As a Process Engineer at Hostess Brands, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the process and packaging systems within our manufacturing facilities. This position is based at our Gentilly manufacturing plant in New Orleans, Louisiana, where you will leverage your engineering expertise to analyze operations, improve throughput, and yield while building the capabilities of the plant teams. You will have the opportunity to grow your skill sets through cross-functional collaboration and direct exposure to the manufacturing floor, which will serve as a strong foundation for your career in Operations and Supply Chain. In this role, you will develop technical mastery of core production processes to deliver critical results. You will identify process improvements by interfacing with department managers and technicians to implement effective initiatives. Partnering with technicians, you will work on corrective actions and ensure that results are owned and sustained. Safety and quality are paramount, and you will model key expectations related to plant operations while measuring the impact on processes. You will also implement Lean Manufacturing concepts to support our High-Performance Organization (HPO) culture. Utilizing effective continuous improvement and problem-solving tools, such as why-why analysis, fishbone diagrams, and failure analysis, you will address root causes of issues. Additionally, you will support startups for new product initiatives and capital projects, lead material and packaging improvements, and collect, analyze, and utilize data to design and execute improvements that drive performance and optimize losses.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical mastery of core production processes to deliver critical results.
  • Identify process improvements while interfacing with department managers and technicians to deliver effective initiatives.
  • Partner with technicians on corrective actions, implementations, and own and sustain results.
  • Model key safety and quality expectations related to plant operations and measure impact on process.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing concepts in support of our High-Performance Organization (HPO) culture.
  • Leverage effective continuous improvement and problem-solving tools (why-why, fishbone, failure analysis, etc.) to address root cause.
  • Support startups for new product initiatives and capital projects.
  • Lead material and packaging improvements which could include managing material changes, qualifying alternate materials, delivering material cost savings, or participating in new product launches.
  • Collect, analyze, and utilize data to design and execute improvements.
  • Improve performance and drive loss optimization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting experience to identify root cause.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Possess a 'learner mindset' - always striving to learn more.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineering focused experience (this could include internship and/or co-op experience).
  • Prior manufacturing operations experience.
  • Strong analytical skills to drive statistically based decision making.
