About the position

The Process Engineer at Howmet Aerospace is responsible for developing and improving manufacturing processes to ensure the metallurgical quality and performance of aerospace components. This role involves continuous improvement initiatives, process documentation, and technical support to meet customer requirements while optimizing yields and reducing labor content.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust processes that meet or exceed customer requirements for metallurgical quality and performance.
  • Investigate and analyze root causes of external customer escapes and implement corrective action plans.
  • Determine and support manufacturing requirements for part qualification and re-qualification, including metallurgical investigations and process documentation.
  • Monitor and analyze yield, labor, and materials data to develop process improvement ideas for new and established processes.
  • Monitor manufacturing output to ensure process control and respond to manufacturing needs, including training and work instructions.
  • Conduct meetings and provide technical data to meet customer needs.
  • Participate in NPI (New Product Introduction) concurrent engineering meetings to review design concepts with customers.
  • Develop material, scrap, and labor costs for cost modeling during quotation preparation.
  • Attend NPI meetings to provide input based on customer specifications for BOM, routings, and milestone plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or materials engineering.
  • Experience in process development and improvement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to investigate and resolve process issues.
  • Ability to create and update work instructions and process documentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with aerospace components and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma or Lean.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with various stakeholders.
