About the position

The Process Engineer at Avery Dennison Corporation is responsible for reducing product and process variation through the application of Six Sigma and statistical tools. This role involves supporting day-to-day operations on extrusion and casting assets, collaborating with site leadership, and identifying production problems to enhance manufacturing processes. The engineer will also focus on loss reduction, product quality improvement, and the development of new products, while leading various safety, quality, and process improvement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support day to day product and process operations on extrusion/casting assets
  • Be a business partner to the site leadership team
  • Identify & analyze production problems using Six Sigma methodologies to control & improve manufacturing processes
  • Reduce loss & improve Extrusion line productivity & product quality through problem solving, Six Sigma & project management skills
  • Continually improve & optimize current products through variation reduction
  • Provide support for new product development and material changes by interacting with Marketing and R&D teams
  • Develop control strategies for sustaining all continuous improvement projects
  • Initiate, lead & participate in safety, quality, cost & process improvement projects
  • Provide ongoing process evaluation—including trials & capability studies
  • Implement new equipment & operating procedures
  • Coach other process engineers and operations personnel
  • Develop and implement technical training
  • Scope and execute capital projects
  • Participate, lead and sponsor various task teams
  • Assist in the development of long-term strategies

Requirements

  • Experience with statistical analysis, statistical process controls, SPC, DOE, FMEA, and MSE
  • Ability to develop, implement, monitor, measure, and control functional improvement plans
  • Problem solving, decision analysis, situation appraisal skills
  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead multiple concurrent priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to influence others
  • Empathic and effective in giving/receiving feedback
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong PC skills - MS Office, Lotus Notes, MINITAB, AutoCAD, QSI and QIS experience a plus
  • Previous ISO 9001-2000 experience with implementation, improvement, and sustainment
  • Previous Six Sigma exposure/experience; Green Belt / Black Belt certification a plus
  • 3+ years of industry experience
  • Flexibility on work hours (on call after hours/weekend as needed)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Controls, instrumentation, PLC knowledge
  • Experience with AutoCAD and project engineering
  • Previous experience with PSA / web based processes
  • Web handling experience
