About the position

The Process Engineer plays a crucial role in the growth and optimization of our manufacturing plant, which focuses on producing green products through advanced fermentation processes. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the successful candidate will be instrumental in meeting the increasing global demand for sustainable products. This position involves a blend of engineering and development responsibilities aimed at enhancing process efficiency and effectiveness. The incumbent will engage in various engineering roles, working closely with production managers and interfacing with multiple stakeholders, including municipal authorities, project design engineers, contractors, and equipment vendors. The manufacturing processes utilized in our plant are centered around both liquid and solid-state fermentation, characterized by a high degree of automation. The Process Engineer will be responsible for operating and monitoring diverse manufacturing equipment, such as blenders, fermenters, and large-scale dryers. This role requires meticulous data management, including maintaining records and preparing reports related to manufacturing operations. The engineer will also perform mass and energy balance calculations to support analytical reviews of processes, ensuring optimal operational performance. In addition to operational responsibilities, the Process Engineer will collaborate with engineering and production teams on pilot plant trials and scale-up initiatives. Preventive maintenance of pilot plant and manufacturing equipment will also fall under their purview. The engineer will provide high-level expertise in troubleshooting operational issues and generating engineering reports that include Key Process Indicators to assess overall process health. A significant aspect of this role will involve leading the Butte expansion project, which includes managing vendor negotiations, budgeting, permitting, and providing monthly updates on project progress. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and will be proficient in using engineering and productivity software. They will be responsible for generating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and pre-campaign checklists for current and new processes and products, ensuring that all operations adhere to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently operate and monitor different types of manufacturing equipment such as blenders, fermenters, large scale dryers, and sieving.
  • Maintain a record of generated data and prepare reports related to assigned operations within Butte manufacturing.
  • Perform mass and energy balance calculations in support of operations for analytical review of processes.
  • Work with engineering and production team members on pilot plant trials and scale-up within the plant.
  • Maintain and perform preventive maintenance of the pilot plant equipment and assigned manufacturing equipment as needed.
  • Provide high level engineering expertise in the resolution and troubleshooting of pilot plant and assigned manufacturing operational problems.
  • Generate engineering reports with Key Process Indicators for headquarters for overall process health.
  • Look for ways to improve and promote fermentation quality in the pilot and assigned manufacturing operations.
  • Take lead on the Butte expansion project with monthly updates, work with vendors to negotiate bids, contractors, cash flow and budgeting, permitting, etc.
  • Generate SOP and pre-campaign checklists for current and new processes and products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Bio Engineering or related engineering field (industrial, mechanical).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years field experience.
  • Project management experience desired.
  • Technical literature knowledge in the field of microbiology and unit operations.
  • Familiarity with methods and techniques used in the preparation of biological products.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good communicator, able to work and collaborate with many disciplines.
  • Ability to work in diverse teams to achieve common objectives and communicate openly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated safety record.
