About the position

The Process Engineer at Veolia North America will play a crucial role in leading product quality initiatives and conducting process capability studies. This position is focused on identifying and implementing improvement opportunities that enhance uptime, quality, capacity, energy efficiency, and waste reduction. The engineer will be responsible for implementing changes through management of change procedures, overseeing capital projects, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. This role requires collaboration with external customers, environmental and safety teams, and other technical resources, as well as networking with sister facilities to leverage capabilities. The engineer will also participate in the design, implementation, and startup of new or improved processes within the existing production facility, including conducting process hazards analysis. In addition to leading product quality and process capability improvement initiatives, the Process Engineer will be expected to work effectively with diverse teams, influencing operators, mechanics, colleagues, site management, and business leadership to achieve improved business results. The role involves higher-level process and operations monitoring, utilizing data and statistical methodologies to recommend and implement improvements. The engineer will provide technical support and coordination for improvement projects, day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, capital projects, and shutdowns. Training personnel and enhancing operator capability will also be part of the responsibilities, along with supporting capital projects by participating in equipment criteria, specification, and review to optimize reliability and cost. The engineer will also participate in and/or lead incident investigations and process hazards analysis (PHA) teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product quality and process capability improvement initiatives.
  • Work effectively with or lead diverse teams to influence operators and mechanics, colleagues, site management, and business leadership.
  • Monitor processes and operations using data and statistical methodologies to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Support and coordinate improvement projects, day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, capital projects, and shutdowns.
  • Train personnel and improve operator capability.
  • Participate in equipment criteria, specification, and review to support capital projects and optimize reliability and cost.
  • Participate in and/or lead incident investigations and process hazards analysis (PHA) teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or equivalent.
  • 3-8 years' experience as a chemical engineer.
  • Experience with high hazard chemical manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably with high hazard chemicals.
  • Experience with Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience managing capital projects from conception through implementation.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software preferred (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD).
  • Experience with PSM programs and compliance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance regulations.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical analysis techniques.
