About the position

The Process Engineer at UPT will focus on developing, evaluating, designing, and optimizing vapor deposited thin films. This role is crucial for supporting continuous improvement in production processes to ensure consistent quality and efficiency in operations.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze company processes and procedures to identify quality, productivity, and economic gaps in production
  • Design, manage and implement process changes to improve safety, reduce cycle time, reduce waste and variability
  • Learn the production techniques and processes for existing customers
  • Develop tools and methods to aid in process data collection and analysis
  • Development of standardized work instructions to ensure replicate process improvements
  • Collaborate with RandD, Quality and Manufacturing to lead root cause investigations to identify and resolve coating non-conformances
  • Identify and launch new coating and finishing equipment
  • Identify and launch new products and coating technologies
  • Research new technologies to improve throughput and yield
  • Must wear appropriate PPE as needed and adhere to all safety standards
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the company

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must possess technical analytical thinking and detail-oriented skill set
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong Microsoft skills with Word and Excel
  • Hands-on learner
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Understanding of process automation and controls

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree in chemical or materials engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 2+ years of experience
  • Working practical knowledge of AS9100
  • Knowledge of the Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), Plasma enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) and Cathodic Arc Deposition (ARC-PVD) coating processes
  • CAD design for in-house tooling
  • Experience programming Mitsubishi PLC logic
  • Experience working with databases such as SQL
  • Proven project management skills
