About the position

The Process Engineer will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, focusing on front-end engineering design and collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance processing operations. The role emphasizes safety, process design, technology evaluation, and operational improvement, ensuring that engineering solutions align with project goals and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to create and verify Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, and utilities for the project.
  • Support the evaluation and selection of process technologies through detailed cost/benefit analyses.
  • Plan and participate in pre-commissioning activities and be actively involved in the commissioning of new equipment and processes.
  • Assist plant operations by continuously improving facility performance, including leading de-bottlenecking studies.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines to integrate findings and recommendations into comprehensive design solutions.
  • Provide input to project development and process optimization, ensuring alignment with overall project goals.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of engineering design decisions and project milestones.
  • Lead efforts to de-bottleneck existing processes and optimize equipment performance.
  • Perform other engineering and project-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience in chemical process industries, with a focus on hydrometallurgical plants or similar operations.
  • Strong understanding of unit operations and process engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations (MSHA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Experience in working on the design and development of capital projects.
  • Proficiency in evaluating process technologies and conducting cost/benefit analyses.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment, while adhering to tight schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve technical questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and ability to travel to field sites as required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement.
  • Knowledge of hydrometallurgical plant operations and experience in battery metal production.
  • Experience in project management and design of large-scale capital projects.
