About the position

Ariat International has an opportunity for a Process Engineering Intern at our Haslet, Texas distribution center (DC) to learn about continuous process improvement. The Process Engineering Intern will learn how to ensure existing distribution processes adhere to best practices and consider new processes and equipment for improvement. The processes include the distribution of apparel and footwear that are processed by the DC. The role will encompass development of concepts through the execution of solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Working directly with distribution staff to understand the daily challenges on the distribution floor.
  • Performing time studies, calculating cycle time, and developing basic manufacturing flow and capacity plans.
  • Evaluating the workflow and sequence of operations to drive improvements in processes in manufacturing systems through VSM.
  • Lean principles implementation (workflow, standard work, Kanban, VSM, Poka-Yoke, and 5S).
  • Executing process improvement projects, improving process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards.
  • Creating standard work documents (i.e., work instructions, visual aids, procedures) for the current and new direct and indirect operations to standardize processes across operations and shifts.
  • Supporting facility layout and design, equipment relocation, and layout optimization projects.
  • Presenting/Reporting on an improvement project at the end of the internship.
  • Assisting with other learning opportunities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program with a major in engineering or related field or recent graduate.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Visio) software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
  • Able to work independently, take initiative, and drive for results with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work 10 weeks during the summer break and potentially 20 hours +/- during the school year.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Lean tools and principles such as Kaizen, 5S, Poka-Yoke, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Kanban, and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) preferred.
  • Hands-on support for mechanical changes, performing time studies preferred.
