About the position

The Process Improvement Engineer at Evonik is responsible for leading and implementing measures to enhance production and operations processes. This role focuses on utilizing state-of-the-art process technology and management methodologies to minimize costs, improve product quality, and maximize plant availability. The engineer will collaborate with business partners to analyze problems, develop proposals for process enhancements, and execute improvement projects while ensuring adherence to Responsible Care principles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process improvement projects to provide technical and methodological support to production and operations, focusing on increasing plant availability, reducing investment and costs, debottlenecking, and improving quality.
  • Collaborate with business partners to analyze and understand the problem and define the scope of work for preparing proposals, ensuring sufficient resource availability and qualifications.
  • Develop and issue proposals to enhance production facilities and processes at Evonik, aiming for improvements in production costs, capacity, production quality, and process safety.
  • Act in assigned roles within process improvement investment projects (e.g. Project Manager, Program Manager, Project Lead).
  • Successfully execute improvement projects leading and influencing cross-functional teams of 3 to 5 people, including supporting, training, and/or developing other engineers.
  • Recommend and implement additional techniques or methodologies that allow execution of projects in a manner that outperforms the competition with respect to speed, cost, and quality.
  • Provide exchange of information with other Evonik plants to utilize valuable resources for improvements and collaborate globally with other departments within Process Technology & Engineering.
  • Provide, organize, and coordinate technical support in conceptual engineering, basic engineering, detail engineering, construction, and commissioning of process improvement projects.
  • Technical responsibility in one or more primary areas of focus of the Process Improvement department (Continuous Improvement Methodologies, Manufacturing Intelligence, Advanced Process Controls, Process Simulation, Process Development, Unit Operations, and Transport Phenomena).
  • Support projects with universities/research institutes/equipment manufacturers to find advanced, more efficient technologies and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline combined with chemical process industry experience.
  • Master's degree or Doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in process technology and chemical manufacturing processing required.
  • Professional Engineering license preferred.
  • Be agreeable to relocation for a restricted period of time.
  • Knowledge of process techniques in mechanical and thermal processes, process design, manufacturing technology, automation of processes and/or methodologies of operations management.
  • Demonstrate human relation skills with emphasis on verbal and written communication, decision making, and leadership.
  • Work and excel in a project team environment with high adaptiveness to variable situations.
  • Ability to work independently while reporting primary results to the supervisor.
  • Excellent cooperation with production, technical and operations departments within the Business Group.
