About the position

The Instrument Engineer position at Lilly involves providing process measurement leadership for the new advanced manufacturing facility in Lebanon, IN. This role is crucial for the startup of a greenfield manufacturing site focused on producing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). The successful candidate will be responsible for the selection, installation, and upgrades of process instrumentation, ensuring compliance and capability for GMP manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support a safety-first, quality always maintenance team.
  • Respond quickly and proactively to changing priorities within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Global Facility Delivery (GFD) to support project delivery.
  • Support C&Q activities, including initial calibrations, shakedowns, and equipment qualification.
  • Provide field support to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment issues.
  • Support may be required outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ensure that process instrumentation is in control, capable, and compliant for API drug substance manufacturing.
  • Provide discipline leadership to local projects for proper instrument selection and qualification.
  • Make improvement recommendations to instrument calibration practices or standards.
  • Manage measurement and control equipment obsolescence.
  • Perform Continuous Improvement of spare parts list for accuracy.
  • Redesign, update, and specify instruments as needed.
  • Create and develop RCA, FMEA, RCM, PHR, etc.
  • Contribute to incident/deviation investigations on instrumentation and implement countermeasures.
  • Complete assigned Trackwise /CAPA Items action items in a timely manner.
  • Own change controls to enhance the robustness and reliability of instrumentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in instrumentation and control systems engineering

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using instrumentation and control system software.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with specific instrumentation and control systems used in API or Chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic systems and software.
  • Experience working in a GMP/regulated environment.
  • Maximo CMMS experience.
