About the position

HRL Laboratories is seeking an experienced Process Integration Engineer to take the lead in the fabrication and process development of innovative semiconductor and superconducting devices. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise and creativity to establish new process integrations for prototype devices designed to function at cryogenic temperatures. This role involves collaboration with a diverse team of engineers to create new processes, prioritize development and production activities in alignment with program deliverables, and effectively communicate progress to program management. In this position, the engineer will be responsible for developing integrated process flows and designing experiments for unit processing steps. They will manage work-in-progress (WIP), which includes overseeing product lots and parallel process development efforts. Close collaboration with program managers, unit process experts, modelers, cryogenic test engineers, and layout engineers will be essential to design novel devices and conduct fabrication experiments. The engineer will also analyze metrology and electrical test data, providing feedback for process improvements, and troubleshoot any process excursions while defining integration solutions. Regular written and oral communications will be required to provide status updates to the program office and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop integrated process flows and design experiments for unit processing steps.
  • Manage work-in-progress (WIP), including product lots and parallel process development efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with program managers, unit process experts, modelers, cryogenic test engineers, and layout engineers to design novel devices and perform fabrication experiments.
  • Analyze metrology and electrical test data, providing feedback for process improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process excursions and define integration solutions.
  • Provide written and oral communications to update the program office and customers on status.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years' experience in processing of semiconductor devices and circuits in a research and development environment.
  • Experience with materials and devices operating at cryogenic temperatures, superconductors, and RF engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of developing solutions for process development for front-end-of-line (FEOL) or back-end-of-line (BEOL) transistor and integrated circuit (IC) integration.
  • Experience in developing novel unit processes in lithography, RIE/ICP etching, CMP, PVD, and PECVD deposition.
  • Experience in developing metrology plans for CD-SEM, ellipsometry, and other in-line techniques.
  • Experience interacting with test engineers and device modelers to achieve iterative process and yield improvements.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis using standard software (e.g., Python, JMP, etc.).
  • M.S. degree in electrical engineering, material science, chemical engineering, or a related science/engineering field, or a Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $120,715 - $150,895
  • Bonus opportunities
  • Comprehensive benefits package
