About The Position

The Process Lab Technician at Michael Foods, Inc. plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of food products through meticulous quality assurance practices. This position involves conducting laboratory analyses, maintaining documentation, and adhering to safety protocols to deliver high-quality products to customers.

Requirements

  • One year certificate from college or technical school in Food Science, Biological Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Safety, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or work experience.
  • Ability to read, interpret and communicate effectively with various documents, including safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and interpret bar graphs.
  • Excellent reasoning ability, with capacity to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety and HACCP principles essential for microbiology and chemistry testing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and prepare samples for microbiological, chemical, or process analysis, adhering to standardized procedures.
  • Perform laboratory analysis using established test methods to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Review test results against specifications and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Practice Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's) and ensure equipment checks and safety monitoring.
  • Assist in maintaining the lab's quality control system and database.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including storage areas.
  • Support Quality and Company initiatives and actively participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Perform bacterial identifications, sterilize microbiological waste and biohazards, and prepare media for testing in the microbiology lab.
  • Conduct process/chemical analysis, work safely with chemicals, and prepare solutions for production in the chemistry/process lab.
  • Attend and actively participate in safety meetings/trainings, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Assume personal responsibility for a safe and healthy workplace and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
