About the position

The Process Mechanical Engineer III at Clayco is responsible for scoping projects, establishing design bases, and creating essential engineering documentation such as process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). This role involves specifying mechanical equipment and instrumentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with other disciplines to implement process designs effectively. The engineer will work on projects in various industrial sectors, including manufacturing and food and beverage, focusing on both new constructions and existing building improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Scope out projects and establish design basis.
  • Create process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Generate material balances and specify process mechanical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Manage engineering design in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Deliver documentation with critical analysis and suggestions.
  • Create and review Equipment Lists, Line and Valve Lists, and Tie-In Lists.
  • Support the creation of trade scope of work documents for pipe fitters and millwrights.
  • Collaborate with Design and Integration department for equipment and piping layouts.
  • Lead technical review of project requirements to define work plan.
  • Develop mass balances and provide guidance for technical documents.
  • Determine detailed equipment requirements and prepare technical data sheets.
  • Respond to Contractor inquiries and provide site support for installation and commissioning.
  • Submit project scope of work including budgetary numbers and goals.
  • Oversee engineering implementation through all design phases.
  • Participate in Client/Project meetings as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college.
  • 5+ years' process mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience on large capital projects across various industries.
  • Knowledge of pipe and manual valve specification updating.
  • Experience creating pipe material schedules for diverse piping systems.
  • PE License required.
  • Preferred experience in pipe stress analysis.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Preferred operations, process start-up, or construction experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
