About the position

The Process/Mechanical Engineering Team Lead will oversee a team of drafters, designers, and engineers, playing a crucial role in the scope, definition, and design of projects tailored to client requirements. This position involves managing day-to-day operations, scheduling, and coordinating project implementations while ensuring high-quality standards are met. The role is set within a fast-paced environment, focusing on projects in various industrial sectors, including food and beverage, life sciences, and specialty chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform leadership functions on a team, including mentoring of team members and dissemination of pertinent information to the team.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the team, including the scheduling of work, prioritizing of work assignments, implementation of projects, and assigning of projects.
  • Act in a leadership/supervisory role, including coaching opportunities of team members, completion of performance evaluations, participation in the hiring process, and mentoring of team members.
  • Serve as a liaison between the team and the leadership team, keeping management informed of task accomplishments, issues, and status of team activities against the program or schedule.
  • Communicate and resolve interface and integration issues with other teams to improve department operations.
  • Use data indicators to schedule workload, schedule maintenance, improve operations, and identify system problems/trends while escalating unresolved issues.
  • Work closely with other team/project leaders to develop cost, schedule, and performance requirements for projects.
  • Play a leading role in process and mechanical engineering scope definition and design.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, construction administrators, and project teams.
  • Perform and document technical design reviews with other disciplines on the project team to ensure high-quality output.
  • Lead projects over $5M and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of mechanical design, engineering process plants, and overall facility design experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective leadership and coordination.
  • High degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in managing technical projects and providing leadership during routine and stressful situations.
  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities for effective decision-making while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Ability to teach and mentor team members consisting of drafters, designers, and engineers.
  • Experience in specifying process and/or mechanical equipment for industrial and commercial projects.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer, material handling, process safety, HVAC, piping, and/or plumbing systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with building codes and NFPA standards.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Windows based operating systems and applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task on numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in heat transfer, material handling, process safety, HVAC, piping and/or plumbing systems strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of building codes and NFPA standards.
