About the position

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is seeking to fill Process Operator positions at our Sweeny/Clemens/Old Ocean Facilities, located south of Houston. This role is crucial in supporting our ethylene, polyethylene, NGL, Clemens terminal, and 1-Hexene units. You will work closely with maintenance and other departments to meet safety, environmental, production, and cost goals. The Process Operator will receive work direction from the Shift Supervisor and collaborate with other operators to perform routine plant operating duties. This includes monitoring instruments, responding to alarms, making safe adjustments to equipment, and ensuring the highest quality product is produced. You will also participate in meetings, conduct inspections, and assist in training other operators. Responsibilities

  • Follows safe work practices, basic operations procedures and contributes to a safe work culture
  • Follows the Tenets of Operations, COO/OD, and Life Saving Rules
  • Participates in meetings with plant supervision
  • Performs assigned area inspection of the operating unit
  • Completes regulatory and operating training
  • Monitors instruments, cameras
  • Responds to alarms, communicates with outside operators via radio, and records data
  • Makes safe adjustments to equipment to maintain team safety and product quality
  • Monitors equipment and conducts hourly rounds
  • Monitors local instrumentation for pressure, temperature, and level of material
  • Adjusts equipment by opening or closing valves
  • Performs housekeeping in the work area
  • Loads and unloads chemical shipments/products from trucks or railcars
  • Draws samples of products for laboratory testing
  • Assists operators working in other areas
  • Trains and shares knowledge with other operators

Requirements

  • A high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in the manufacturing industry
  • OR a 2-year associate degree in Process Technology with a minimum of 2 years of process operator experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery
  • OR a Process Operator Basic Certification with a minimum of 2 years' process operator experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery
  • Ability to use tools (pliers, wrench, screwdriver, etc.)
  • Ability to use a 2-way radio and LEL monitor
  • Ability to drive a forklift
  • Ability to read and communicate verbally, written, and electronically in English
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders to a height of 100 feet, and lift up to 50 pounds
