About the position

The Process Technician role at Celanese is a critical position within the operations team, responsible for supporting the Clear Lake Site's manufacturing processes. This role focuses on executing routine tasks to ensure stable operations, maintaining safety and compliance, and collaborating with various support functions to address challenges in manufacturing. The position requires a commitment to operational discipline and safety, with responsibilities that include operating process equipment, troubleshooting issues, and participating in emergency response efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with stewardship and safety policies.
  • Operate process equipment including valves, pumps, compressors, and heat exchangers.
  • Utilize standard operating procedures when executing tasks.
  • Maintain a high level of operational discipline for routine tasks.
  • Perform process rounds and collect operating parameter data, raising awareness of conditions outside expected ranges.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot abnormal conditions or equipment malfunctions.
  • Collect and analyze process samples.
  • Initiate and monitor product transfers from tank farm to off-site loading terminal.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance activities by isolating sources of hazardous energy.
  • Raise awareness of emerging risks that may impact safety, reliability, or product quality.
  • Authorize work activities using the safe work permitting process.
  • Provide assistance during maintenance turnarounds.
  • Initiate the maintenance workflow process by entering work notifications in SAP.
  • Participate in structured problem-solving efforts such as RCAs.
  • Participate in drills to improve emergency response.
  • Engage in process safety improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Degree in Process Technology or equivalent curriculum.
  • Minimum 3-7 years of experience in operating chemical manufacturing or petroleum refining facilities, with a preference for continuous processes.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to advance through a job progression/advancement system.
  • Prior experience working as a console operator with Honeywell, Foxboro, Delta V, ABB, or other recognized DCS.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.
  • Willingness to work overtime, holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Willingness to be on call and meet call-out standards for site responsibilities and emergencies.
  • Willingness to participate in the sitewide emergency response team.
